Charles Schwab’s Fixed Income Trading Desk manages the firm’s BondSource platform that offers clients, on a typical day, the choice of over 35,000 different fixed income securities. The most popular products include: municipal bonds, CD’s, treasury bills and bonds, corporate bonds, and preferreds. The team consists of 12 traders managing risk-less products and 22 senior traders managing proprietary/risk portfolios. In addition to managing their respective product lines, the trading team is the firm’s subject matter experts on all fixed income related topics. Job Description * Manage other members of the trading team in our NJ Trading office and manage the preferred product line. Manage personnel engaged in all types of preferred, treasury and GSE security trading. * Manage and coordinate Schwab’s preferred activities, with a focus on new issue offering * Manage Schwab’s relationships with external dealers and, as a subject matter expert, assist our internal associates in providing our customers with the best possible buying and selling experience for fixed Income products Technical / Functional Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree required * 15+ years of debt preferred trading/managing/underwriting experience with strong knowledge of the convertible and rates markets (i.e. Treasuries and GSE’s) * FINRA Series 7, 62 and 55 required; FINRA Series 24 strongly preferred or willing to obtain within first 6 months of employment * Experience managing trading teams in multiple products * Extensive dealer relationships in both secondary and primary markets * Have a detailed understanding of the regulatory issues in the preferred market place in regards to Dodd Frank legislation and capital issues * Must have deep trading background in the $25 and $1000 Par Preferred securities, including knowledge and trading of trust preferreds, QUIDS, QUIBS, Baby Bonds, and PINES. Background in Treasury and GSE trading strongly preferred * Oral and written communication skills coupled with experience working with and influencing internal and external business partnerships * This position, while located inJersey City, reports to a manager inSan Francisco. Thus, the candidate needs the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and manage a daily work load with minimal supervision * A strong ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests, with a proven track record in the knowledge of investment and operational functions.
